LEM CDSR 0.07 Transducers Now Supporting Discrete Outputs

LEM has updated their range of CDSR 0.07-TP/NP current transducers with versions that offer discrete signal outputs, enabling a fast, simple and safe method of detecting and triggering the trip conditions if leakage current exceeds safe levels.

Why discrete outputs?

Electric vehicle architecture integrates a battery pack which can generate a leakage current that can deactivate a home residual current device. IEC standards require the detection of a DC leakage current at 6 mA to prevent the residual current device (RCD) from becoming ineffective. To protect the RCD, EV chargers include a device to detect the DC leakage current. This detection is the role of the CDSR.

CDSR is a leakage current sensor developed to meet market demand for residential and commercial charging stations, and is available for single-phase architectures (TP) and three-phase systems (NP). The new TPDT and NPDT versions have two discrete output signals that trigger when leakage current exceeds:

  • 6 mA (DC fault)
  • 30 mA (AC + DC fault).

 High level of safety

Designed to ensure a high level of safety, the CDSR provides a default detection output signal with a reaction time below 200 µs. Combined with an independent test winding, charger manufacturers can test the performance of the sensor in real time to guarantee maximum safety.

The CDSR is fit for operation in all EV charging stations from 3.7 to 22 kW, with a maximum current per phase of 32 A. It works in the operating temperature range of -40 to +85 °C and the insulation between the primary and measuring circuit is very high due to its long clearance and creepage distances of 13.2 mm.
