Overview
A broad portfolio of both asymmetric and symmetric Gate Turn-Off Thyristors (GTOs) provides proven reliability across a wide range of traction and industrial applications. These GTOs are designed to minimise conduction losses, helping your systems operate more efficiently while reducing energy consumption. With typical on-off switching frequencies between 200 and 500 hertz, they deliver dependable performance for a variety of high-demand applications.
Features and applications
- Proven reliability for long-term, dependable operation
- Optimised for fast switching to improve system responsiveness
- Low on-state and turn-off losses for greater energy efficiency
- Suitable for traction and industrial, AC drives and power supply applications
Detail
GTOs are inherently slow switches, with transition times from on to off states and vice versa typically ranging from 10 to 30 microseconds. To ensure safe and reliable operation, all GTOs include protective networks known as snubbers. The turn-on snubber functions as an inductor to control the rate of current rise, while the turn-off snubber acts as a capacitor to limit the rate of voltage rise. These features protect your equipment and maintain consistent performance under demanding conditions.
All Hitachi GTOs are manufactured as press-pack devices, pressed with high force onto heat sinks that also serve as electrical contacts to the power terminals. This construction improves thermal management and reliability, giving you confidence that your systems can withstand continuous industrial or traction operation.
